How to Travel With Your Dog

Culebra-Creek

Traveling with your dog can be a rewarding experience. Dogs love to visit and experience different environments, but many owners tend to think that traveling with a dog can be very cumbersome and almost impossible. However, with a bit of planning, it can be a memorable experience that you can cherish forever. Below are tips to make traveling with your dog an easy and exciting experience:

  • Look for pet-friendly hotel accommodations: With pet ownership increasing across the U.S., many hotels are starting to allow pets in their hotel rooms. Although you may have to pay an extra fee, look for hotels that are pet-friendly. An alternative to this is to look for Airbnb accommodations where the owner has pets or allows pets into their house. This can be a great way to make sure your pup is taken care of.

  • Check airline policy for pet travel: If you’re flying somewhere, be sure to call the airlines you’re flying with about pet accommodations. You want to make sure your pet is able to travel safely and comfortably with the airline you choose. Look for reviews on the internet of prior passengers who have flown with pets and see what they have to say so you can make the best decision on which airline to select.

  • Make your car pet-friendly: If you’re deciding to do a road trip, make your car as pet-friendly as possible. For example, consider having a doggy bed in the car, treats, your pup’s food, water, and even a mat to place on your seats so the hair doesn’t stick to your seats. When driving, make sure your pup is secure and doesn’t have a chance of falling. This may mean that you need to drive a bit slower to protect your pup. You can also consider using a pet carrier to transport your dog.

  • Pack the essentials: When traveling with your pup, they’ll need their own bag of doggy essentials. Items such as food, water, collapsible bowls, toys, a bed, medication, and medical records will be useful to take with you on your trip.

Have fun: And lastly, have fun! Going on a trip with your pup is an exciting and fulfilling experience and will bring you and your dog even closer. Remember to take pictures and cherish each and every moment!
